For this filters have to be used and one of the filters used is Chebyshev filter.

The system used to listen to music may not be able to cover all the spectrums of the audio range. A number of drivers are used in these systems and these help in splitting the audio signals that are coming into various frequency bands that is adaptable to the system used. Thus multiband processing along with amplification is made possible. This is done by splitting the signal into more than one stereo bands that are used in the audio systems. Audio crossovers used as filters do this and it is either the Chebyshev filter or the Butterwith filter for this purpose.

The filter which is digital or analog separates the band frequencies is Chebyshev filter in most of the audio systems. They are adequate for the task that they are deployed though better filters can be used. It has been improved from the previous version that is the Butterwith filter. In this filter overall error is minimized for a given range of filters. The improvement of the Chebyshev filter over the Butterwith filter is because a steeper roll off is noticed and the passband and stopband ripple is greater.

One more point in favor of using the said filter is its speed. The speed is seen to be higher because the filtering is done by recursion and not convolution. The design was made by using one of the mathematical techniques commonly used for such devices. The filters of this kind may not be best suited to all kinds of applications as the passband ripple is seen when it is used. Yet it has its plus points and it is used for its speed. In practical use the passband ripple is minimized and is also simplified and hence it is used in many systems for the function of filtering the band frequencies. Thus Chebyshev filter finds use in the audio systems as filter for separating the band frequencies from each other that are fed into the audio system.
