The Jeep Wrangler is a small Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) manufactured by the US Company Chrysler under its Jeep Marque
. The history of the Jeep goes back to the 2nd world war, where America asked Ford and Willys Overland to build a 4x4 vehicle to military standards.
It was in fact Willys Overland who won the contract to build these cars, but due to the quantity and time frame the US military commissioned Ford to produce the same vehicle with design and specifications from Willys Overland.
The Jeep has changed parent company a few times, American Motors (AMC) (1987), Chrysler Corporation (19871998), DaimlerChrysler (19982007), Chrysler LLC (20082009) and now Chrysler Group LLC (2009).
In 2007 the Wrangler went through a massive redesign, the current generation Wrangler is significantly larger than the previous model, with a 2inch (50.8mm) longer wheelbase and 3.4inch (86.4mm) wider track, though the two door model is actually 2.5inches (64 mm) shorter in the overall length than the older model, allowing for better approach and departure angles.
There was a 2010 facelift model released earlier in the year, it has a new easier to fold/open soft top, standard UConnect on models equipped with the MyGig radio, and new sun visors that offer more coverage than the old models, as well as integrated vanity mirrors.
