Used Motorcycles Inspection - A Must Before You Buy
Your dream is about to bear fruition
Your dream is about to bear fruition. You are now in a position to purchase a used motorcycle and have managed to save enough money towards that purpose. You have even identified one and are very keen to complete the transaction.
But wait a minute.
How will you determine whether the vehicle you are about to buy will provide you with all the thrills without compromising on your safety. The only way to ascertain that is to do a thorough inspection of the vehicle and this article gives you some pointers on how to go about it. You need to adopt a three pronged strategy consisting of first talking to the buyer, inspecting said vehicle and then taking the time to understand your findings before you decide to pursue the deal.
Before you talk to the buyer, make sure you have a list of questions ready. You can download these questions at sites that provide guidance on such issues, and the advantage of these questions are that they are to the point and help you save time and effort. Through these questions, you will be able to decide which of the bikes warrant a physical inspection and which do not. Make sure you preserve the form on which you have recorded the buyer's responses.
When you have shortlisted a bike that you wish to inspect physically, ensure that you take along the form with you just to check out the consistency of responses from the buyer. The inspecting stage should not be confused with the negotiating stage as there is a post-inspection stage in between for you to assess the responses and your own findings of the inspection.
Make sure you do not talk price at the stage of inspection. By keeping the stages separate, you are allowing greater possibilities of getting the bike at a lower price and also not getting drawn into some kind of an attachment with the bike you are inspecting, and thereby falling into the trap of agreeing on a higher price. It is necessary to assess your findings after an inspection rationally, and also match responses that you took on phone with the ones you got when you met the buyer personally.
Remember one other thing. When you are in the process of inspecting the used motorcycle, do not voice your opinion or respond to any questions posed by the buyer at that time. It is not necessary for you to share anything with the buyer as your job is to just collect data about the condition of the bike and other parameters crucial to the health of the bike. By not giving the buyer any feedback at this point, you are strengthening your position when you actually negotiate with the buyer at the negotiating stage.
Needless to say, it is important to document everything. This process will help you get accurate and truthful answers from the buyer and you would also be in a better position to negotiate when you have things written down in front of you.
