While installing a hard drive, first you need to locate the hard drive trays on your computer case. To do this you need to open up the computer case and remove the cables that are connected to it. You need to set the jumpers as well. This is perhaps the most difficult part of the entire process. The newer SATA hard drives do not require setting the jumpers but to set IDE drives you will need to set the jumpers. How many drives are there in the computer? If there are only two drives then leave the jumpers as default and just put each drive on a different cable. You can set the hard drive on one IDE cable and the CD/DVD drive on another IDE cable.

But if there are three or four drives then you should have two drives on the one IDE cable and then you it is required to set one drive as master and another one as slave. Don't worry! The process is not that tough at all. On the case of the hard drive it is mentioned where the pin should be to make it a master, slave or cable select drive. Just take the little jumper off one of the pins and put it on the appropriate pins.

Now insert the hard drive into the tray and tightens the screw in. Now connect the cables from the motherboard and the power supply to the hard drive. The cables should be the SATA cable or the IDE Cable. If you are using the SATA cable, it is very easy to install. This cable goes only in one way and you can see the SATA ports on the right.
