Using Color In Your Home Decorating Project

Color is one of the basic foundational elements of good design

. Color choices affect every part of a room's design so understanding how colors work together is very important for any decorating project. Colors can even evoke strong emotions from people, including romance, anger, anxiety, or happiness.

Every space has its own specific color requirements. Color can play tricks on the human eye when chosen and applied correctly, making small spaces appear larger. Choosing the wrong color can ruin your entire home decorating project, so you should always take great care with your color choices.

If you want to have the rooms feel more comfortable and inviting try choosing warmer colors. You can also use these colors in a dining area and especially in a living room location. Cooler palettes usually ease anxiety and can make you relax easier. Many times individuals use this in the bedroom since that's the relaxing location for most since it's where you sleep.

Color is usually on the walls in one solid color but you do have other options to consider. You can choose to paint in a striped pattern or even just make one wall the accent piece with a darker bolder color and the others a lighter shade. Color can also be used through out different elements in the room.

One popular color choice is creating a monochromatic effect by using one color in the entire room. Stark white monochromatic designs are very popular for coastal cottage designs but usually not in your home next door. You also can add texture in the room as a design technique. Use rugs, drapes, or even cotton quilts when adding accents in the room. There really isn't a limit in textures when designing a monochromatic room.

If you don't have an idea how to go about designing your home try some tips that should help you out. If your dealing with a small room chose a color that is light, the affect will be to make your ceilings look higher. The opposite effect will come if you choose a dark color to paint the room.

Going bold at one time may be too much for you, so pick a wall and paint it a dramatic color. Add some bright colors to the room through accents.

Making the floor the darker surface in the room is always a great idea. It will make the room more balanced and then you can add a great area rug just to accent a small piece in the room. If you are someone whom has wooden floors you have a few choices with area rugs to compliment the rooms feel.

Rugs have been made in so many different shapes, colors, sizes, and patterns it should be able to pick something that will add to the decor. A very beautiful rug can be made the focal point in a room too. Plus it's a great way to add color in a room but not take the more permanent step of painting.
