Using Facebook For Networking

Social networking is one of the hottest topics online today and Facebook happens to be the largest social networking site

. If you don't have a profile on Facebook or you haven't been using it to network, then now would be a great time to get started. There are over 200 million users on Facebook right now and with its continuing upward trend, the time is ripe to get on Facebook and start connecting with people.

Facebook allows you to customize your profile so much that you'll actually have enough space to tell visitors to your profile far more than they'll want to know. Of course, if you are using Facebook to network with people, then you'll want to keep your profile interesting. While it is best to show off a real picture of yourself as well as telling a bit about yourself, it would not be appropriate to drown your visitor in your personal information.

The trick to getting people interested in adding you as a friend on Facebook is to keep it real. The first steps towards keeping it real are to add a real picture of yourself on Facebook and to enter your real name. It is rare to see Facebook users using anything other than their real names, but when it does happen, all this achieves is to make the user look like they're hiding something. If you are genuinely interested in networking on Facebook, then your profile should reflect this, otherwise people who befriend you on Facebook will be tempted to "unfriend" you.

A great feature of Facebook is the feature which allows anybody to create a user group. When creating a group, you are allowed to categorize your group based on its topic and you can also customize it with an image, additional photos, links, and other relevant information. Group members are allowed to make posts on the group's wall, which allows for a degree of interaction between them. A great way of networking on Facebook is to either create your own group or to join existing groups which interest you.

Your profile won't attract very many visitors if you just let it sit there which is why joining groups and participating in discussions can go a long way in drawing positive attention to yourself. Of course, if you come across as a spammer, your profile will get a lot of negative attention which you'll have a hard time getting rid of. The more you brand yourself as a fun, easygoing and knowledgeable person, the more likely it'll be for your fellow group members to add you as a friend.

As with any other social networking site, Facebook allows you to get in touch with people all over the world who have similar interests as you. These are people who you wouldn't otherwise have a chance to ever talk with or meet. As with any community, minding your own business on Facebook will not get you many friends. So get out there, join some groups, and start sharing your thoughts and knowledge with others!
