Using Media To Grind Raw Material

In the production and construction of things there is often times a need for things to be ground down

. There are many methods to grinding. Some of the ones that we are most familiar with now are things like a die grinder, a wheel grinder, a metal grinder, a wood grinder, and many others similar in nature to this.

There is a lot of work that goes into building whatever it is that is being built. There is a lot of planning and a lot of measuring and a lot of work. However, there is a lot of times when a particular item will just need to be ground down some in order to make it fit or be as smooth as it needs to be.

Along with all of that work and planning takes some craftsmanship. This is a skill that is being lost as more and more things are becoming automated and left up to machines to do. The person who hones this skill will find themselves part of a group that is small in number and shrinking as time goes on.

One of the methods of grinding that people tend to not know very much about is that of using media. At first, this may sound a little funny and like it is a mistake, but there is a grinding method that involves little steel, ceramic or other hard material balls. These little balls are called media. These balls are used to grind other materials by pinching and crushing things against another hard surface.

A great example of this is a spray paint can. When you shake a spray paint can to mix the paint and you hear the rattle inside of the can, what you are hearing is actually some metal balls that are considered media and they are grinding the paint and by so doing, mixing the paint.

Grinding is generally considered to be done with metal, however as you can tell by the example, that is not always the case. There are many things that are grinded that are not metal. Often times, grinding takes place in food items to. An example of this may be wheat that is ground down into flour. Back in the days of the Indians, Corn was ground down into corn meal in a grinding bowl. This used much of the same techniques as media grinding. In the end, it is all about taking a raw material and making it into the desired item.
