Using Pycnometer Instruments For Different Applications
A pycnometer is simply a glass or metal container
. These containers have a determined volume, and they have a number of different purposes. The most popular purpose is to find the density of a given liquid, but alternatively pycnometers can in fact be used to determine the porosity of a material. Determining the porosity of a material is extremely important, because by doing so one will be able to figure out exactly what that material can be used for.
In the auto industry, metal passes through the assembly line every single day. How will we know whether or not that metal is up to par? How do we know if it is safe to put in our cars and send onto the open road? Pycnometers can handle solids, and liquid, and there are a few different types. First of all you have the digital pycnometers which have a number of different output methods. Obviously digital meters are a bit more sophisticated and easy to use, while glass prefers a more manual approach to the entire method.
Pycnometers have become quite advanced, and can in fact have temperature sensors built in. As you know, temperature does change from time to time, and in a lab setting this can spell disaster for a test. Because of that, the device will be able to detect a change in temperature and compensate, making the results accurate.
To display the readout of pycnometers you can use an LCD display that will show you the results, and if it is sophisticated enough you will be able to view different readouts and perhaps see different test results. The device may even have the ability to store data so you will have test results to look back on in the future. This will save you from needing to create a hard copy or save the information to a backup device.
If you want, you can forego the LCD display for your pycnometers and choose to have the data moved directly to a storage device. The benefit of this is that you can have the data sent to an external storage device, or even a solid state device which would make it completely portable between units. This is an amazing technology that every industry will need at some point.
Remember pycnometers can be a bit expensive, and with that in mind you might choose to rent before you actually buy. There are many companies out there that will rent to you, and the best part is that you will be able to return your old equipment when the latest and greatest is released. In addition to that, if a part breaks down, you can simply have the company replace it with no cost to you. There are many benefits to renting, but there are even more benefits to actually owning a pycnometer lab instrument.
