Using Tea Tree Oil for Scabies Itch

. Scabies is caused by parasitic organisms in the skin and these are also known as "mites". These mites would reproduce under the skin and the body would cause allergic reactions towards the bodies of mites, their faeces and the eggs laid by them. Severe itching and rash are some of the initial symptoms of the condition. There are numerous medications available for such an infectious disease; however most of them come with adverse side effects. In a few cases, these side effects would lead to alarming skin conditions such as impetigo.

Since ancient times, tea tree oil has proven to be one of the most effective treatments for scabies itch, please note that it is not a scabies cure. The oil has been used since decades to heal insect bites, acne and several other skin related diseases. The oil possesses strong antibacterial and antifungal properties. When applied to the affected parts, tea tree oil would penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and eliminate the hidden mites. In addition, the oil would also kill the eggs laid by these mites and hence prevent further infestation.

Depending on the severity, there are several ways to apply the oil. You can mix it in one table spoon of olive oil, in order to dilute it for sensitive skin. Sometimes, while applying it directly on skin, tea tree oil can cause mild irritation. You can also add a few spoons of tea tree oil in a hot water bath and soak yourself for a minimum of 20 minutes.
