VIC Tenders Called for Regional Rail Link Work Packages C

VIC Tenders have been called by the Regional Rail Link Authority for the Alliance Work Package C: Footscray to Sunshine Alliance , Alliance Work Package G: Train Control and Systems Alliance and Work Package E: Deer Park to West Werribee Junction

Regional Rail Link separates regional trains from metropolitan trains for the first time giving Geelong, Bendigo, and Ballarat trains their own dedicated tracks through the metropolitan system from Sunshine to Southern Cross Station. Regional Rail Link will increase capacity and reliability for Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat services. It will free up critically needed space for additional suburban services on the Werribee, Sunbury and Craigieburn lines.

Jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments, the $4.3 billion RRL Project will see up to 50 kilometres of new rail track built from west of Werribee to Deer Park, and along the existing rail corridor through suburbs including Sunshine and Footscray to Southern Cross Station.

The new dedicated tracks will extend from Deer Park through the growing western suburbs of Tarneit and Wyndham Vale and connect with the existing Geelong line at West Werribee Junction. New stations will be provided along the Regional Rail Link at Tarneit and Wyndham Vale.

Regional Rail Link will transform Footscray Station into one of Melbourne's busiest and most modern train stations with two new platforms and tracks, an extended footbridge, and new escalators connecting to all platforms to cater for increased train services.

Federal Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Anthony Albanese, said works packages released for major construction between Sunshine and Footscray would deliver major improvements for Melbourne's busiest suburban train station.

Victorian Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula said Regional Rail Link would deliver major capacity improvements across V/Line and the metropolitan train network.

"More people than ever before are travelling on Victoria's rail system and Footscray is a major junction for regional and suburban trains," Mr Pakula said

Upgrades to the Sunshine Station precinct include a new footbridge and plaza entries at the station, a new platform and improvements to station safety and amenity. Construction of the Regional Rail Link project will involve the removal of two level crossings on Anderson Road in Sunshine paving the way for a transformation of the Sunshine Station precinct.

Brimbank Council Chair of Administrators Peter Lewinsky said the removal of the level crossings would go a long way to realising council's vision to radically improve the Sunshine central activities district.

"Removing these level crossings gives council a great opportunity to work with the project team and the Government to unlock the development potential in Sunshine," Mr Lewinsky said.

The VIC Tenders for the Regional work packages C, D and G are out now with tenders for the remaining packages are expected to be released soon.
