Pondicherry has four main beaches and they are the Promenade beach, Paradise beach, Serenity beach and Auroville beach. Aurobindo Ashram, founded in the year of 1926 by Sri Aurobindo Ghose, an Indian freedom fighter, poet, philosopher, and yogi, stands in the heart of Pondicherry. Some of the tourist attractions in Pondicherry are the War Memorial, the Statue of Joan of Arc, the Heritage Town hall or Hotel de Ville, the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi and the Old Light House.
Pondicherry is located at a distance of approximately 320 km from Bangalore. Some of the best highways connect Pondicherry to Bangalore. One of the best ways to travel from Pondicherry to Bangalore is by road. From Pondicherry, one will have to first take the NH 7 till Krishnagiri and then join the NH 66 till you reach Bangalore. The towns you will cross en-route to Bangalore are Gingee, Tindivanam, Tiruvannamalai, Chengam, and Uthangarai.
One can travel from Pondicherry to Bangalore either through Tindivanam (via Gingee) or Villupuram (via Thirukovilur). The time taken to travel from Pondicherry to Bangalore is around 6 hours. There are many restaurants and petrol bunks on the roads en-route to Bangalore from Pondicherry.
Private and State owned bus services are also available to travel between Pondicherry and Bangalore. The bus fare from Pondicherry to Bangalore is Rs 300 for an ordinary seat to Rs. 700 for a deluxe seat. Private operators provide different types of buses like airbus, AC luxury seater, AC sleeper, semi sleeper, and 2 X 2 coaches.
People travelling with family or in groups can go for taxi services to move between Bangalore and Pondicherry. Taxis are available from Pondicherry to Bangalore for a fare of Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,500 for a round trip.
There is only one express train that directly connects Pondicherry to Bangalore. Yesvantpur Express (12256) starts from Pondy station and terminates at Yeshvantpur. The total running time is around 10 hours. The other passenger trains that connect Bangalore and Pondicherry are Bangalore Pondy link (4668), Bangalore Villupuram (6698), Auroville Garden City (1327) and Bangalore Pondy Tindivanam Villupuram Tirunelveli daily (6243). Villupuram station is nearby. There are no flights between Bangalore and Pondicherry. Though Pondicherry has an airport, it does not offer service to the public.
