Vampire Weekend Tickets - Still 'against' Alternative Rock Norm
Vampire Weekend will kick off their North American tour on Aug
. 28 in Vancouver as they wrap up some European dates this July. The New York based indie rock outfit recently announced plans to expand the summer tour into the fall, with Contra support running through Oct. 13 in Miami Beach, Fla. Opening for the group with dates in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Dallas, Tulsa and Orlando are the Beach House, Dum Dum Girls and the Very Best.
If you haven't seen these rock stars perform live yet, now is your chance as they run through North America this summer - so pick up your Vampire Weekend tickets online.
For July, Ezra Koenig and the gang take on European festivals like the Glastonbury, T in the Park and Oxegen. Fan support will come just as the group releases their new single "Holiday," a tune that might not be an appropriate summer anthem though it's been deemed one by Intelligent Life reports NME.com. Koenig, the frontman for the crowd, was surprised that their single about the Gulf War was named a summer single in Intelligent Life.
"I don't know if it's the most feel-good song necessarily, it feels good to play it but...there's stuff going on there," he said to NME.com. Don't count "Holiday" out of their summer festival shows, however. "At festivals you can put together a pretty bombastic set. It's going to be our first time on the Pyramid Stage [at Glastonbury] so that's an honor." Expect to see serious power during the show even in a single written with a darker note.
The New York City band isn't consistent with similar alternative rock outfits. The quartet met at Columbia University and stayed through graduation before fully exploring their efforts as a band. It's obvious from their first self released EPs that the group wasn't going to give audiences a typical sound. Most obvious is that fact in the single "Oxford Comma," which refers to the use of a comma in a list of three items. The single was brought up during a recent interview with Steven Colbert, who defended the oxford comma, while Koenig blasted it.
It wasn't long before Vampire Weekend's EP turns into tour sets and a record deal with XL Records. The debut Mansard Roof was released in 2008 after the group made appearances at the CMJ Music Marathon and toured around New York's indie venues. The group followed up the debut EP with the full length a few months later, which hit the UK and US charts strong. Though new to the industry, it seemed that Vampire Weekend absorbed everything quickly and adjusted easily to the lifestyle of indie rock stars. Following the success of Vampire Weekend the group toured up until the release of Contra, the sophomore album released in January 2010.
Much like the group's previous efforts, Contra was full of dippy pop rock that instantly caught the attention of critics and fans alike. With the singles "Horchata," "Giving up the Gun" and "Holiday," the album flew to the top of the Billboard 200, Top Rock Albums, Top Digital Albums, Top Indie Albums and Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums charts.
