Doctors Help Cure Female Hysteria Through Arousal
?
Perhaps you think the vibrator is a recent, more modern invention. This lovely device of pleasure was actually first patented as a medical device back in 1883. At that time, female sexual arousal had a completely different name. It was called "hysteria." The cure, of course, was an orgasm but an orgasm was known as a "hysterical paroxysm." Who knew? Can you imagine telling a woman today that she is hysterical if she has arousal issues?
Prior to the electromechanical
vibrator invented in 1883, manual vaginal massage was used by doctors back as far as Hippocrates. This type of treatment was not considered sexual in nature by professionals. It was, however, tiresome and a lot of work for the poor doctor. Looking for a way to "speed up" the process of curing hysterical patients, a steam-powered vibrator was invented in 1870 in Britain. Once again, the device was not named as a sexual device but rather it was said to relieve female hysteria and treat genitalia congestion.
Vibrators Enter The Mainstream
Let's face it in the sexually repressed society of the 1800's the sexual needs of women were not typically addressed. Vibrators became a bit of a necessity. However, they were only found in the hands of a physician as they would not make their way into the mainstream until the 20th century. As vibrators entered the homes of women in the early 1900's, they were phased out of the medical profession.
In the early 1880's the first battery operated vibrator was manufactured. Electric powered models also became available. The first electric version of a vibrator was patented in 1902 in America. The distinct advantage of the electric powered vibrator was its ability to produce far more rapid vibrations than its earlier counterparts. The electric vibrator was the fifth electrical appliance to be invented. It came well before the vacuum cleaner, the washing machine and the clothes iron. Rightfully so! Unfortunately, the new vibrators were also noisy and bulky.
Are Your Muscles Ready For The Hand Cranked Vibrator?!
The evolution of the home vibrator next brought forth the hand-cranked version. Although it was much less bulky and less noisy than its predecessors, it was no doubt frustrating for the user. You could easily run out of muscle power long before satisfaction.
The Vibrator Has Come A Long Way
In the roaring 1920's, the vibrator became a bit taboo. It was synonymous with loose morals so it fell from grace and nearly disappeared from society. It was not until the sexual revolution of the 1960's that the vibrator was reborn. It became a symbol of liberty and freedom to women much like bra burning. Rather than be a slave to their unsympathetic husbands, women now had a choice.
Today there are vibrators in every colour and a multitude of styles. We guarantee we have just what you are looking for. The vibrator has come a long way, baby!
