The online medium is fast becoming one of the most important advertising mediums. Till some time ago, advertising was all about slots on television during prime time and front page color ads in the newspapers. Outdoor advertisements and radio advertisements were also stressed upon. Slowly, these other forms first got excessively cluttered and then redundant with the boom of the internet. Few people actually read the hard copies of magazines and newspapers anymore. Even fewer listen to the radio. This is why brands have shifted their attention entirely to online marketing.

The fascinating thing about online marketing video is the endless opportunity of options. You can do just about anything. Brands have deployed tactics from business videos to pop up advertisements to fake links to ambush marketing just to get their message across. The power of a video though, cannot be undermined.

Promotional videos have been around since the age of black and white television. In those days, making videos required expensive technology and few brands could afford that. This allowed those brands to have an air of exclusivity and superiority. Slowly the field cluttered up with just about everyone entering the domain. It was at that time when the focus shifted to creating meaningful advertisements that sold well. The one flaw with television was the timing. If someone missed the ad once, he had to wait till it aired again to see it. The internet however, did not have this concern.

Websites like youtube have made advertisements more relevant to the consumer. The consumer can now replay and watch his favorite advertisement whenever he wants. He can share this ad by posting the link through chat or social media. He can comment and give his views. He can share a nice video with his friends and display his feelings. It has been seen that consumers find it more innovative to display moods and feelings through videos which are usually advertisements. The brands advertisements have become an extension of the consumers personality through video marketing

However, it isnt long till the online platform gets just as cluttered. Pop-up advertisements and e-mail shooters are no longer relevant due to spam folders and browser options. It is only a matter of time before even advertisement videos get over cluttered. What remains to be seen is how marketers overcome that hurdle and come back with an even more innovative form of advertising.
