Villas In Mallorca For An Inspired Road Trip
When you're booking VILLAS IN MALLORCA for your holiday extravaganza
, investigate hiring a car as this will allow you to see all the beautiful scenery this area abounds in plus you can discover the islands rich history and unique culture. Don't worry about driving fast around the island as you will more than likely cause a traffic jam. This will probably be due to going slow while taking in all there is around you on this beautiful island.
The locals call the north west of the island the Serra de Transmontanas which just happens to be the name of the mountain range situated there with its starting point in Pollensa and the ending point being in Andratx. Now that you know how to drive at a leisurely pace, this area is the perfect place to test you skills, starting in the small village of Puerto Pollensa.
The narrow winding roads in this area will make a short journey seem like one that takes forever to reach the end. With your starting point being Puerto Pollensa, your first stop will be the Monastery of Lluc where you will find the famous statue of the Virgin La Moreneta. The story of this statue and how it came to be in the monastery starts with a little shepherd boy named Lluc who found this coloured statue of the Virgin which he took to a Monk. The statue glowed in the monks hands making him ever so humble and he immediately placed it in the monastery, hence its new home.
The mountains surrounding this little town are perfect for a leisurely stroll through the rolling hills or you can venture further up in the mountains for a fantastic view over the area. For a lesson in history take a look at the Renaissance-Baroque design which they used when building the local church, with construction starting in1622 and finally finishing in 1684. You could spend the whole day here, doing nothing more than enjoying the magnificent artistry of man, but its back on the road once again.
After leaving your last stop, the next destination is the Port of Sa Calobra with its beautiful cove known as the Torrent de Pareis. This is a good place to go for a swim but its not possible during the summer as it will be packed with tourists unfortunately.
Before reaching your next allotted stop of Valldemosa stop at the little village of Deia. You will be interested to know the famous writer Robert Graves is buried in the small church in Deia. Now you can head over to Valldemosa where you can take a little time to explore the Royal Charter House of Jesus of Nazareth which was built sometime in the 14th century. One of the interesting points of this place is that sometime in the 18th century the government seized a lot of religious buildings and sold them to private individuals. Frederic Chopin and his lover, George Sand, bought the charter-house in 1838 and used it as a winter retreat.
You have come to the end of your journey and its now time to return to your
VILLAS IN MALLORCA in the knowledge that you have done justice to your visit to this wonderful place until the next time. You will be back if for nothing more than to explore and discover this magical place it has to offer while you delve into its secrets.
