Visa Applications For The H-1b Category On The Rise

There has been a sharp rise in the number of applicants who have applied for visas in the H-1B category this year

. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has updated the number of H-1B petitions received for the year 2010. This figure is higher than the number of petitions that was received for H-1B visas for the fiscal year 2010. In just one week, USCIS had received nearly a thousand H-1B visa petitions. As of November 27, 2009, the USCIS has accepted around 58,900 visa applications for the H-1B category.

Applicants who have a bachelors or an equivalent degree and wish to seek employment in the United States can apply for immigration in this category. Professionals, such as management consultants, accountants, programmers, scientists, research analysts, journalists, and engineers can also apply for immigration visa in this H-1B category. Professional nurses who are interested in performing complex duties or supervising nursing operations in the US are eligible for immigration in this category.

This H-1B visa is also suitable for popular fashion models who wish to work in the United States. Aliens entering the United States to offer services related to cooperative research and development projects that are administered by the US Department of Defense are also eligible to apply for H-1B visa.

The US Citizenship and Immigration service has approved a sufficient number of H-1B petitions for foreigners who have advanced degrees to meet the exemption number of 20,000 from the fiscal year 2010 cap. H-1B visa applications that were filed on behalf of a foreigner with an advanced degree will now be counted towards the general cap of 65,000.

The US immigration service will continue to accept both advanced degree and cap subject petitions till the numbers reach the statutory limit. While calculating the total number of petitions, the number of petitions that are revoked, denied, or withdrawn will also be taken into account.
