Let's Get Organised About Buying Presents This Year

Over the course of a year, how many presents would you say you give

? And of those gifts how many were purchased within mere days (or hours) of the time you gave them to the recipient?

I'm not sure about you, but for me that's pretty much every time I buy a gift

So I sat down and had a think about some suggestions for ways that I could change that, and maybe have a ready list of birthday gift suggestions I could turn to whenever it came time to pony up for another birthday gift.

Suggestion #1 - Use Amazon

Now I'm not saying that you need to buy every present from Amazon. But one Amazon tool I use often is their shopping lists feature, which I use mainly for books.

Any time I come across a book that I would like to read at some stage I add it to my Amazon list, which I go to when I'm looking for a new book to purchase.

One of the best things about Amazon is they sell more than just books...in fact Amazon offer just about everything you can think of. So you could do the same thing wth other products.

Any time you hear or read about something that sounds pretty cool, save it to your list. Then you can go to this list if you are looking for ideas for a unique gift...or you can just go ahead and buy it for yourself. Either way is good.

Suggestions #2 - Use Amazon...again

OK, I don't want to sound like an Amazon whore, but another great feature of Amazon is their best seller lists.

You can find out from here what the hot selling items are right now, and you can use this to give you some birthday gift suggestions.

There are other sites that have similar tools, including eBay so just check whichever site you use regularly.

Suggestion #3 - Ask Close Connections

This is probably the easiest thing you can do. Just go and ask someone close to the recipient what it is they need right now.

Maybe they've dropped some hints about something, or have an item they need to replace. Get the inside scoop from those closest to the person and you are always guaranteed to buy them a great gift.

Suggestion #4 - The Chip In

Made famous by the Seinfeld gang, this is one of my personal favourites.

Leave the decision about the actual gift to someone else, cough up the money, sign the card with something cute and you're all done - the perfect crime.
