Niavaran Palace Complex is spread out over a huge area in Tehran. There are many buildings in the complex which also includes a museum. There is another palace inside this complex called Sahebqaraniyeh Palace which was built by Nasir al-din Shah of the Qajar dynasty. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi resided in Niavaran Palace with his family till the Iranian Revolution took place. Mohsen Foroughi was the architect of this palace who designed it in 1937. The royal family started living in it in 1947, a year after its completion.
During your trip to Iran, you can see five main structures in Niavaran Palace Complex. These are Niavaran Palace Museum, Sahebqaraniyeh Palace, Ahmad Shahi Pavilion, Jahan nama Museum and a private library. Some other buildings of interest in this complex are the Private Cinema, Niavaran garden, Blue Hall and Jahan Nama gallery.
The New Complex
Niavaran Palace Complex originated in a building which Nasir al-Din Shah used as a summer resort. This building was later called the Sahebqaraniyeh Palace by Ahmad Shah, who made it his private resting place during the Qajar era. When Mohammad Reza Pahlavi came to the throne, he got rid of all the buildings bordering this palace except for Ahmad Shahi pavilion. He then constructed the rest of the buildings outside the main palace as they stand today. The pavilion was used to showcase the gifts given by different world leaders to Iran.
Layout of the Palace
Modern technology has been used to make the magnificent Niavaran Palace Complex which you can see during your trip to Iran. There are fine examples of Islamic art on the buildings. Black stone makes up the floor of the palace which has an aluminum sliding roof. The ground floor houses a great hall along with a guest room, private cinema, waiting room, dining room, Blue hall and many other halls.
There is also a room where the official suits and military uniforms of Mohammad Reza, together with his medals can be seen. Pahlavi's resting place was located on the third floor. His children, along with their retainers also stayed in this floor. The rooms are sumptuously decorated with carpets, paintings and many other precious gifts from other countries.
