Visit The Mulkirigala Rock Monastery: An Engineering Marvel

Therefore, the construction of the Monastery is said to have been in the 2nd century BC and is said to be of much historical importance.

Mulkirigala is less than half an hour away from Tangalle and is an attraction that tourists are encouraged to visit if they wish to obtain a unique insight into the history and culture of the country. Once you reach the village, the locals will be able to guide you to steps that will take you to the Monastery. One must then climb steps carved of stone that takes them to the temple and on the way; one will be treated to a view of a number of temples, statutes and stupas. Once they get to the summit, they will be treated to one of the most panoramic views of the Southern coastal belt.

The view from the top alone should entice you to climb this mountain for it is truly spectacular.
