Visiting The Georgia Aquarium-behind The Scenes

The Behind the Scenes Tour at the Georgia Aquarium allows visitors to go behind closed doors to unlock the secrets of day to day operations

. This tour includes complimentary souvenir photo at the top of an exhibit.

You can visit the top of the live coral reef exhibit where you will discover the secrets of the tropical waters and mangrove forest, located above Tropical Diver. You get to observe where the Aquarium team cares for the animals and prepares their food as you visit the Commissary and Veterinary Clinic.

Enjoy the view at the top of the largest ocean exhibit in North America and observe the largest fish in the world, the whale shark, as it swims below you. You can also see the African penguins in the Correll Center Animal Care Suite.

The tour is approximately one hour long and costs $50 per person. It is for ages 10 and up only and is offered daily from noon until 4 p.m.


The Journey with Gentle Giants allows you the unique opportunity to swim with the largest fish in the world, the whale shark. Guests will swim at the surface with an air supply, masks, fins, booties, and a wetsuit.

This program is $225 and includes admissions, the swim, a certificate of participation, a t-shirt, and a souvenir photo. It is a 2.5 hour experience for ages 12 and up, offered daily at 4:30 p.m.

The Georgia Aquarium also offers sleepovers for families, groups of all ages, and dates. Sleepovers include Aquarium admission, Deepo's Undersea 3D Wondershow, Behind the Scenes Tours, guided adventure through the galleries, a sleeping mat, fun activities, dinner and breakfast and waking up next to one of our amazing exhibits.

The Ocean Odyssey is a cruise aboard the "SS Star" through the deep waters of the ocean and its coral reefs. The program focuses on the aquatic animals and habitats including sharks and whales and what you can do to help preserve these wonderful resources.

Get ready to explore the Aquarium through a variety of special activities, tours, animal encounters and more. Ocean Lights is an interactive program takes visitors on a scientific journey.

Participants will explore geological oceanography, which focuses on the topographic features and physical makeup of the ocean floor; meteorological oceanography, which pertains to the study of the ocean's interaction with the atmosphere and the effect on weather and climate; and biological oceanography, which concentrates on deep ocean animal life. This costs $100 per person and is offered daily from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

You can also reserve the Aquarium for a 90 minute birthday party. All parties are for up to 15 people, or up to 30 for an additional charge per person.

Parties for children under the age of six will include a visit with an Aquarium mascot. For parties with children age six and older, you can tour the behind-the-scenes area at the top of the Tropical Diver gallery or have a mascot visit.

The Aquarium also offers lecture series and workshop series. The Ocean 101 Workshop Series, engages in hands-on workshops that take guests to a new level of understanding about biodiversity, the relationship between our weather and ocean, human impacts near and far and conservation activities.


There is also the "Breakfast with Biologists" lecture series where guests dine on breakfast fare by Wolfgang Puck Catering. During breakfast biologists tell you about everything aquatic, from working with our animals at the Aquarium and in the field to the problems facing marine life today.

Camp H2O is a wonderful opportunity for kids to explore the aquatic realm at the world's largest aquarium. Summer Camp H2O is a week-long summer day camp that provides campers with a unique experience at the Georgia Aquarium that involves animal encounters, behind-the-scenes tours, opportunities to meet the husbandry team and much more.

Jazz Journeys offers some of the best in Atlanta jazz and is sure to lighten your mood with the sounds of upbeat, cool tempos and smooth melodic jazz tunes as you take in the sights of some of nature's most alluring aquatic animals. You can even upgrade your Jazz Journeys experience with Jazz Bites gourmet picnic packages, or take advantage of our tapas, Cafe Aquaria grill menu and cash bar during your visit.
