Visiting The Historical City Of Jaipur

Jaipur is one of the most prominent cities in India and a well known tourist destination

. Because most constructions here have been painted with a pink dye, Jaipur is also known as The Pink City. The capital of the province Rajastan, Jaipur used to be the main residence forthe royal families in India. The place has a history of almost 250 years and was built by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II. The fact that this used to be a royal city can still be seen everywhere in the architecture of the buildings. If you ever travel to India don't miss this spot, as it is part of the golden triangle tour.

Once in Jaipur you will discover that there is plenty of places to see and visit. On of the the best is the Hawa Mahal, which is a five story palace also referred to as the Palace of Breeze. The building itself is quite amazing with 950 windows named jharokhas. The lattice work you can spot on the windows is marvelous, lending the palace an exotic feel. Once upon a time behind these windows, the women from the royal family used to sit and watch the world go by. There is a reason why they also call this place the Palace of Winds. The filigreed jharokhas allow the air to flow freely so walking around the palace will certainly let you fill the breeze.

Hawa Mahal may be the most important building to see in Jaipur, but it is not the only one. There are many forts that you can explore such as Jaigarh Fort, the Albert Hall Museum, the Birla Temple, or the Rambagh Garden. It is pretty amazing to see how many places there are to visit in Jaipur.

The most interesting fort in Jaipur is the Amer Fort. It is located at the foot of Aravali hills and it is within close distance to the city. This fort used to be a place where the royal family came to live from time to time.

Another fort you have to visit when you are in Jaipur is the Jaigarh Fort. While the Amer Fort was used as a royal residence, this one was used as a defense building and it served its purpose well. Erected during the 15th century, the fort is only a little further from Jaipur then Amer. The traces of war can still be seen on these walls.

A closer fort is the Nahargarh Fort. This fort is also located in the hills of Aravali and is known as the abode of tigers. Once you climb its walls you will be rewarded with stunning views of the entire city.

Don't forget to visit the Albert Hall museum. Here you can admire a large collection of the art from the region which includes objects made of carved ivory, some really beautiful pieces of jewelry, and paintings from the most prosperous times of the region.
