This type of hemiplegic migraine is said to be multi-genomic in nature. This means that several chromosomes must first come together as one before it can be passed down the ancestral lines. Being genetically triggered, this type of hemiplegic migraine can be diagnosed through the utilization of sequence analysis since almost half of all the family members have the same mutations in their DNA which causes FSH. The primary symptom of this type of migraine is the numbness one may feel on one side of the body, hence the word hemiplegic. FSH normally manifests itself during the childhood years and gradual decrease and eventually stops upon reaching adulthood.

Other side effects of the disease include nausea, vomiting, asthma, and even paralysis of one hemisphere of the body. However, stroke seems to be one of the most devastating effects this kind of migraine. If ever manifestations of FSH are observed, it is best to consult your family doctor or physician as soon as possible. The effects of this condition may cause the patient a harder life and the earlier the treatment is done, the earlier the patient can recover.

Also remember to avoid drugs that cause vasoconstriction or narrowing of the blood vessels. A familial hemiplegic migraine can cause stroke so if you give vasoconstrictor drugs such as ergotamine, it will only worsen the condition. Consulting your doctor is the best option one can do in times where migraines attack.
