I've written about Turkey before - I know. But it's such an interesting place that I have to mention it again. However, while I waxed lyrical about the Turkish scenery and hospitality in other pieces, I'd now like to talk about their sense of 'personal space'.

They sit back in the chairs, and the barber, having lit the end of a stick, singes the hair from the nose of the client before doing the same in the ears.

And in the packed saunas, or so Tony tells me, they lay you on your front and pummel your back as any masseur would, before reaching under you, grabbing your arm and flipping you around like a burger on a hot plate. This came as quite a shock to Tony and I must admit that the image did amuse me.
