2003 Amendment One $1.4 billion tax increase. Mo Brooks helped lead the "anti-tax" forces and represented them in one of the two Alabama Public Television debates on Amendment One (broadcast state-wide). Mo Brooks' guest editorials appeared in Alabama's major newspapers.

Mo Brooks actively campaigned for, contributed to, and publicly endorsed both Rep. Phil Williams and Senator Paul Sanford in their successful special elections.

(and then Congressman) Democrat Bud Cramer worked hard for fellow Democrat Tim Morgan, who won.
5Rob Colson was an 8-year Madison County Commission Republican incumbent.
6Mo Brooks was outspent 20-1 by Luther Strange and 10-1 by George Wallace, yet received more votes than Strange & Wallace combined in the 5th Congressional District. Statewide, however, the results were Strange 48%, Wallace 33%, Brooks 16% and Adams 3%. The lesson from this race: never be badly outspent again.
