As a matter of fact, amongst the world's recognized races, the blacks are apparently not book-reading people. However, it is observed in contemporary times that this scourge is not necessarily limited to the black race alone; it is gradually spreading to other races, especially the youth population. Therefore, if not properly checked, it will undoubtedly become a pandemic' issue. Obviously, certain factors engender the continued thriving of this unwanted social weed. What are they?

First and foremost, book-reading culture is experiencing a near-to-extinction challenge as families are really not imparting this spirit into their wards. The home where the family resides ought to be the foundation block of the life-long book book-reading culture. However, due to perhaps parental incompetence, the much-talked-about reading culture becomes old-fashioned as other pressing demands have been prioritized over the interest. Hence, failure on their part will in a not-too-distant future cost the home a colossal loss, yielding a macrocosmic societal stagnation.

Besides, most youths have greatly given preference to what they call life's all-in-all', money over book reading. Irrespective of race, status or background, money remains the answer to all things. Hence, their reason. Granted! On a second thought, the advent of money was the orchestration of people's thoughts that derived their emanation from reading books. People who possess riches without imbibing the book-reading culture over the years are those bound to experience financial accidents, in no time.

Moreover, the status quo in the world's educational system has made book reading a hard nut to crack challenge for students. The stereotyped form of teaching approach, the clich in the nature of topics taught, the cumbersome and stress-connected academic workload have unequivocally made students to forego book reading for imminent academic pursuits. Without a doubt, the school system will produce an army of graduate without qualitative education.

As Shakespeare rightly said: if you are not informed, you are deformed'. The quality of information you have and what will distinguish now and in the next decade is dependent on the quality of books you read.
