WOW Priest Leveling Guide

As the main healing character in the game, Priests are generally known as players who can keep others alive. They share similar traits to what their name suggest. They are designed to grant a great deal of health and provide people with spells that will heal them for a long period of time. By far they are the best healing class throughout Azeroth. Bring the dead back to life is just another trick that the Priests have up their sleeves. Once a battle is over, you can always count of the Priests to start bring people back to life.

As a healer you are asked to restore health and sometimes even restore life to players. Priests are not only known for healing but can also bring out a different side to them; a side that lives deep in the shadows. Priests can also become a DPS class that can unleash demonstrative damage to enemies. You will find that you will do most of your damage from spells that cover a large area. These spells will quickly kill many targets at once.

I could just say "Most of being a Priest is just healing people," and not mention anything else. It sounds easy, but the reality is the healing is very hard and complex. Interviewing dozens of players, I found that only the healers who like to heal are the success stories. Many others who tried it and didn't like it naturally failed.

Unless you have a deep ambition to be a healer, do not waste your time. This skill has so much more to do with your desire rather than your character's ability. Healing is an art form that not everyone can do. You are the single most important aspect of any group, if you fail, everyone fails. If you don't have the desire to do it, then you are more likely to make a mistake.

That being said, if you are still interested in healing; Priests are your character. You have so many healing options it is unreal. As a Priest you will be asked to do watch over many players and their health. Whether you need healing done over time, or a quick one time heal, Priests have all types of spells to help keep players alive. Make sure you pay attention to how much mana each of your spells cost and regulate the amount of mana you use, so to not use too much too soon.

Many times in raids and PvP battles, you will be dealing with two or more enemies that your group can not handle. You will want to utilize your fear and charm spells. You may choose certain enemies and place them under a spell that will force them to leave a fight for a predetermined time. If you plan on playing against other players, then this is an especially useful set of skill you will want to know. The ability to fear them out of a fight can make the difference between victory and defeat.

It seems that when designing the Priests Blizzard put all of their eggs in one basket. They have tremendous healing abilities, as discussed above, but when it comes to combat you will want to be very careful. Unfortunitly Priests are not allowed to wear very good protective gear. Cloth armor is the best they can have, which poses a problem if you get caught up in a one on one battle with someone. To top it off, they also have a very limited amount of health (compared to the other characters) which makes them even weaker.

Check out this Priest Leveling Guide for a more detailed look into being a Priest.

If you want to survive you must surround yourself with people who can protect you and keep the enemies off of you. Never expect to lend a hand when it comes to melee combat. It isn't worth even trying. Your hit points as a Priest are so low; you won't even want to attempt a melee attack. I think all of this on top of the difficult aspects of healing, make the Priest a very hard character to play continually.

As a Priest you have really two different areas you could focus on, healing and DPS|As discussed before, you have two specs to choose from: Healing and DPS. This gives you some room to be flexible when you choose what talent tree you would like to build in. When it comes to being a healer, you will clearly want to choose the Holy talent tree. It comes with a great deal of talents to enhance your already top notch healing skills. If you are looking to destroy enemies as a Priest your best bet is to go into the Shadow talent build; allowing you to devastate large groups of targets.

The third and final tree is Discipline, this has a great deal of fun and interesting talents. When choosing between the two (Shadow and Discipline) you must look at the overall damage numbers and although Discipline does a lot, Shadow still does more. If you want to be the best DPS Priest you will use Discipline as the secondary talent tree.

Shadow has to be your choice while you level your Priest, it will benefit you greatly. If you are leveling by yourself (which many people do) you want to destroy your targets quick without them getting to many hits on your fragile character. As a healer, you can easily heal yourself after the fight. Quick kills are important when leveling, the best way to do that is to use the Shadow talent tree.

As a premier healing class, Priests are a obvious choose if you are intending to become a healer. Healers are always in high demand, but that doesn't mean that anyone should attempt to be one. I must say again that you should only choose to be a Priest healer (or any healer in that case) if you have a great desire to do so.

If you decide that you want to dabble in the ranged DPS area of a Priest, make sure you do not engage in a melee battle. Allow those who are designed for close quarter combat to do so. The lack of armor and health points will make your day a very short one. You will be in high demand whether you choose to be a healer or DPS. Priests are a valuable and necessary character in raids and PvP battles.
