Stilts are pillars, posts or poles used to allow a person or structure to stand at a distance above the ground. drywall stilts allow the possibility of walking or standing still. They take their name from their use in Drywall construction, but they are also used by painters, actors and magicians. They are slightly heavy and are made for slower and safer walking. They are the safest of all stilts.
Important Guidelines:
Stilts should be inspected thoroughly before use, making sure that the construction is free from damage or any kind of hazards. There should not be any excessive wear at the connecting points and the bolts should be tight.
One should walk only on hard surface which is leveled.
One should be cautious while working around low profile furniture, fixtures and pipes.
The upper leg strap should be fastened first while putting on stilts and disconnected last while removing the stilts.
Any damaged or worn stilt component should be removed before use.
They should not be used while going up or down the stairs.
All floor openings should be covered.
All straps should be tightly fastened and secured.
Short steps should be taken making sure the stilts are raised clear off the floor while walking.
One should walk forward only making a u turn to change directions.
One should not wear stilts that are not adjusted properly.
One should not walk on slippery surfaces.
One should not carry heavy loads while walking on stilts and also running and walking fast should be avoided.
Taking large steps should be avoided as the action springs fall out and may cause injury.
Walking on stilts under the influence of drugs and alcohol should be avoided.
Walking on secondary scaffolding, planks and benches should be avoided.
