Since these are basic safety feature, a unit that does not have these features is not worth buying.

The heating capacity of these heaters is measured in BTU (British thermal unit). A table top model generally has a heating capacity of 20,000 BTU/h, whereas a commercial patio heater generally has a heating capacity of around 45,000 BTU/h. It's important to buy one with the right heating capacity, as too little of heating capacity would render it useless and too much o f heating effect will only end up with guzzling gas, with no added effect. Also make sure to check the burner. It's recommended to buy an outdoor heater with a stainless steel burner as chrome and tin rust quickly.
