Watch James McAvoy on Satellite TV

Originally hailing from Scotland, James McAvoy is one of the most talented actors of his day and age. He is only in his early 30s, but already he has starred on some of the best movies that you will see in the theaters. If you are lucky, one of his films will play on one of your satellite TV channels! So the next time you are browsing through the channels of your brand new HD TV and see one of these titles, make sure to stop and watch. James McAvory stars in them, and so you are bound to be entertained and impressed by his chops!

1. Wanted

This is an interestingly psychological take on a action thriller, in which McAvoy plays a cubicle chump who discovers that he actually is a natural-born killer, brought under the wings of Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie. Watching McAvoy deftly master the American accent is a sight to behold: very few people watching Wanted in theaters or on satellite TV would ever realize that he is not a native-born speaker. Some of the action scenes are great to watch in high definition as well, especially the ones involving Matrix-style curved bullet dodging! (You will have to watch the movie to understand this last reference, and please do: it is totally worth it!)

2. The Last King of Scotland

This Oscar-wining drama stars Forest Whitaker as a seemingly-benevolent and very charismatic African dictator who brings James McAvoy's character, a young Scottish doctor, into his personal service. At first, McAvoy enjoys the perks that he enjoys under the dictator's special treatment. But after a while, he begins to notice all of the horrors that the dictator is involved in, and that he is complicity part of. But removing himself is not so easy as he had initially wanted. The drama and the cultural tensions are high throughout the film, and the acting is incredible. This film features some of the best performances of the decade.

3. Atonement

McAvoy stars with the British actress Keira Knightly in this adaptation of Ian McEwan's hit novel of the same name. It is a story of a love that is betrayed by what seems like the innocent lies of childhood. The adaptation was received by most critics as spot-on, and McAvoy ended up winning a Golden Globe for the performance.

4. The Last Station

This 2009 film saw McAvoy playing Valentin Bulgakov in a film about the life of the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. Once again, it is incredible to see how easily the 31-year-old Scottish actor has been able to play people from all different kinds of cultures with all different kinds of accents. Perhaps it is being from such a small country like Scotland: in order to make it big, you have to be more international in a way. But McAvoy is not the only star in this film: Helen Mirren and Christopher Plumber also show strong performances. Both of them were actually nominated for Oscars, in fact. So make sure to check this one out the next time it plays on your satellite TV channels.
