Tina Fey is what some might call a late bloomer

. The hysterically funny comedian and writer has risen to national prominence only in the past few years, breaking into international superstardom in her late 30s. This is something that is hard for most mainstream actors to accomplish, as so much of the Hollywood machine revolves around youth, a factor that is sadly doubly true for women entertainers. But Fey has pioneered the way throughout her career. After spending time in Chicagos famous Second City improv comedy troop, Fey worked her way up to be the head writer of Saturday Night Live (SNL), eventually making it onto camera via the Weekend Update segment, costarring with Jimmy Fallon, and becoming a familiar face to those with satellite TVs across the country. From there, Fey moved onto produce her own show, the quasi-biographical 30 Rock in which she plays the head writer of a weekly sketch comedy show called The Girlie Show with Tracy Jordan. But while 30 Rock was always a cult favorite and grew steadily more popular with audiences, what catapulted Fey into intensive international fame was her hysterical renditions of Sarah Palin during the 2008 presidential election season. Of course, many of Palins campaign trail snafus wrote the jokes themselves with little intervention from the writers her interview with Katie Couric was a particular gem but Feys delivery was spot on, all the way down to the down-home folksy twang that Palin supporters so love. So now that Fey is a star, you will be more aware of her every time she pops onto the screen in some movie that you had forgotten about. So if you are surfing channels on your satellite TV, looking to get your Tina Fey fix, there are a few of her earlier films you might have forgotten about.

In Baby Mama, for example, Fey paired up with fellow Saturday Night Live alum Amy Poehler. Fey played an update career woman who realizes that she may be running out of time to have a baby. She hires the slightly off-kilter Poehler as a surrogate mom, and hilarity ensues. Tina has the late-30s single woman down pat, but the comedy remains fresh despite the type-ing nonetheless. If you need convincing to not change the channel, just watch long enough for the scene in which Tina Fey tries to wrestle the bottle of hair bleach out of Poehlers hand as the latter screams I was blond as a chiiiiillllddd!

Mean Girls is a 2004 comedy about high school life in a wealthy Chicago suburb, and features a pre-personal drama Lindsay Lohan as an outsider who suddenly finds herself invited into the most exclusive clique in school. The movie script, written by Fey, was based largely on the non-fiction book Queen Bees and Wannabees about teenage cliques, in addition to Feys own experiences in high school. The cast of this movie also features Amy Poehler as well as fellow SNL alum Ana Gasteyer, and actors Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams
