In Big (1988), Tom Hanks stars as Josh Baskin, a 13 year-old boy who finds a fortune telling machine and makes a wish to become big. He wakes up the next day in the body of a 31 year-old version of himself, but he's still got the mind of a 13 year-old. He quickly lands the dream job of being a toy tester and meets an attractive co-worker that he starts dating. After enjoying some of the advantages of being an adult, Hanks' relationship with his teenage best-friend starts to deteriorate. 1984's Splash, follows a love story that develops between Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah. The two meet when Hanks jumps into the sea as a young boy and has to be rescued by Hannah, who happens to be a mermaid. They go back to their normal lives and Hanks believes he imagined her, but they meet again years later when she saves his life after he falls into the sea again. Hannah finds his wallet in the ocean and sets out to find him in New York. By waiting outside of the water for a few days, her tail disappears and she becomes human. When she sets out to find him, she is quickly arrested for public nudity, but since she is unable to speak and Hanks' wallet is the only form of identification on her, the police quickly contact him. Hannah learns English very quickly after watching TV, and she and Hanks quickly fall in love. Trouble ensues when a scientist throws water on Hannah to prove that she is a mermaid and her tail returns. The government seizes her and begins performing tests on her, while Hanks feels ashamed and questions his love for her.
