There are many instances where people will have fell over in work either because the floor was slippery or that something had been spilled on the surface and not been easily visible such as oils or water. It is often heard of in advertisements for personal injury solicitors, where companies have been held responsible for not providing a safe working environment for their employees and had to pay damages and injury costs as a result.

As a company owner yourself, you will no doubt not want this kind of situation to occur on your premises, equally as much you will want to make sure your employees are safe and not injured requiring medical attention or time off to recuperate. This is why ensuring you have taken all possible precautions can help you, your company and your employees don't have to suffer an injury or costly payout.

Obviously when there is a spillage you will want them to be cleaned up as soon as possible, this may not always be possible as people will need to call for cleaning staff or at the very least find the nearest mop and bucket to take care of the situation. It is important to make sure all staff are briefed on how to handle this safely either by cleaning it up themselves or clearly making out and warning others to the dangers that may be invisible to the next person to come along. Warning signs can be bought and placed in common risk areas such as near entrances so that anyone walking past is clear of the dangers.

Another option is to have safety matting that is placed near to entrances so that anyone with wet or muddy shoes can wipe them on the absorbent matting helping to eliminate any liquids that could get on shiny or smooth wooden or concrete flooring. In some other areas there may be a need for safety matting to make sure that there is a decent level of grip so rubberised flooring can provide traction and avoid slips and falls. This type of flooring is also easy to clean and dry if there has been a spillage, something someone could do by giving the area a quick wipe down with a cloth.

Make sure your workplace is safe for all that enter your doors, remember to bear employees and visitors in mind, making sure that absolutely anyone will be made aware of any possible hazards in the workplace.

Whilst appreciated the presence of visible safety signs may not be enough in your business, safety matting on the floor could prevent people walking in moisture and dirt from outside as well as make sure the floor is not slippery that people could fall on.
