Watch the Water

My husband started windsurfing about a year ago and I have to confess, I haven't been very supportive. When he got his windsurfer last year "on a whim" I was pretty annoyed because we don't really have the money to spare. And I think because of that I have always begrudged him his windsurfing time.

But he has put so much into it; he's out on his board five or six times a month and it's the same through winter. He is really keen on mastering it and when he comes home he's taking really passionately about it. So it is hard to hold the grudge he's definitely getting his money's worth.

Anyhow, he has learned a lot this year and he feels confident enough to enter a race at his club. He thinks I don't particularly care about it and I know he would love me to watch him and even though he thinks I won't be there, I will. I'm going as a surprise, I'll leave after him, let him think I'm going into town or something and then, just before he launches, I'll turn up and give him a little present.

I bought the present, a Rotary Aquaspeed Watch, about a month ago and I've just been waiting for the right opportunity to give it to him. Hopefully this is the opportunity; he can use it for the start of the race. It's a good idea right? I'm pretty proud of my little plan.

I bought the watch online, it was an afterthought actually. I was shopping for watches for myself (I bought a Ladies Guess Watch) and I saw that there was a special offer on if I bought two. It's a conceited reason to buy a present for someone; but who cares about that? I did my research on Rotary Aquaspeed Watches, it will be perfect for him when he windsurfs and hopefully when he looks at it it'll be like I'm on the water with him!

Conclusion

My plan worked beautifully, he loved it. Obviously he didn't win the race, but he didn't come last either (second last). But he said that it didn't matter and he felt like a winner all day knowing that I was watching him from the shore. Little does he know I had my book with me.
