Water treatment is the process of making water more acceptable for its various usages

. These can include use as drinking water, medical, industrial processes, and many other uses. Water treatment process helps in clearing existing contaminants in the water, or decreasing the intensity of such contaminants so the water is fit for its desired use.

Physical and chemical processes such as settling, filtration, disinfection, and coagulation are involved in treating water for drinking purposes. There are ways of treating wastewater biologically as well, such as, aerated lagoons, activated sludge, or slow sand filters.

During the water treatment process for drinking purposes, there are many substances that are separated. These substances can be very harmful and include bacteria, viruses, and fungi and man-made pollutants such as fertilisers. Important measures should be taken to make clean drinking water available. This will lead to protection of the treated water during transportation and distribution after treatment.

Chlorination for the treatment and purification of water is not a new phenomenon. Chlorinators have been in use for more than a few years and still are revered as the most efficient, economical and convenient way of purifying drinking and swimming pool water. Chlorinators function competently to eradicate harmful microbes or pathogens that are accountable for severe water- borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, dysentery, gastroenteritis and others.

There are many types of chlorinators available in the market to choose from. However, various factors should be taken into consideration while selecting appropriate chlorinators. There factors include scale of water purification, contamination density of water, and obviously the consumers budget.
