There are many reasons that a business might have to waterproof their supplies

, and in which neglecting to do so can be a grave error. For example if your business keeps a lot of supplies that you need in order to continue with your own work that might be paper, pens, rubbers, pencils, rulers or something more specific to your business such as food, screws and nails or planks of wood. Should these things get ruined by water, then this can prevent you and your staff from being able to do their job properly. While this might seem like an annoyance and a small expense it's actually much more than that, as not only will you have to pay to have the items replaced, but you will also have to deal with the repercussions for example if you work for clients or for customers then a lack of supplies will mean that your team doesn't meet its deadlines as they have nothing to work with. This in turn will mean that your company damages its reputation as a business that meets deadlines and is fully reliable. At the same time it will mean that you have to push back all your other clients as you won't be able to help them until you've helped the previous ones. Your employees will still be coming in meanwhile, and that means you'll be paying them for work that isn't getting done which will come straight out of your company's pocket. You might even lose the business of some of your clients if they decide that you're taking too long, or will at least be likely not to get future business from them as they remain unimpressed with your current service.

That's if your own supplies become damaged by water, but then again you might damage your supplies in transit to a recipient. For example if you run an online shop and your products get damaged by water on the way then you will have different but similar problems to deal with firstly your company will again look bad, and if someone buys something from a website to find it turns up damaged then they're unlikely to use that service again. Secondly you will have to replace the item which will cost you further money and negate any profit you would have gotten from that sale. If this happens across the board then you're looking at a big loss but it's important that you replace your customers' belongings quickly and efficiently while remaining courteous at all times. Failure to do so will have worse repercussions than the immediate loss of profit and you need to show that despite this mistake you are still a trustworthy business that can be used again in confidence.

There are many ways in which supplies can be damaged by water. In a warehouse they will be sitting close to the ground where any kind of moisture can cause damage (and often warehouses are damp places despite our best efforts). Meanwhile if you are sending a shipment they can get damaged en-route particularly in rain, and as said they can get damaged in transit to customers or clients if the packaging is not waterproofed.
