Way To Help With Hay Fever
Hay fever effects hundreds of thousands of people each year
, generally people have two options here. They can either suffer it, or treat it. Many people may not even realise that they suffer; some will simply refer to it as a summer cold, completely unaware that it happens regularly every year.
Luckily there are a large number of treatments for hay fever. Sometimes these work well, other times less so. Generally it is different for different people. What works for one might not work for another. You can also build up a resistance to a medicine over time which might make it less effective the next year.
Hay fever varies in strength each year which can also affect your medication, if it is a relatively mild season then you can get away with less medicine and the medicine that you take will have a greater effect.
The treatments available include nose sprays, tablets, eye drops. These all offer a different style of treatment and can usually be taken at the same time - although always check with your pharmacist before doing this. Nose sprays can be very effective but can take up to two weeks before being effective. You need to take this early, ideally before the season starts, otherwise you will struggle to take this with a blocked nose.
Tablets are offered in two forms, you can have a one a day tablet. This is usually a weaker tablet that works for a longer period. These generally work very effectively with the nasal sprays. Alternatively you can take a stronger eight hour tablet, upto 3 hours a day. This will usually offer a stronger treatment, but will not last as long.
Eye drops also provide great relief from itchy eyes. These drops are usually taken often throughout the day as needed.
There are also a number of alternative treatments available which can be successful for you. Light therapy is available from most shops and some people have reported great success with this. You can also help reduce the pollen by covering your nose with petroleum jelly, this will make some of the pollen stick to the jelly rather being breathed in. You will still be affected by the pollen, but the strength will be reduced. You can keep pollen out of your eyes by wearing shades.
Finally, staying away from the pollen is a great final resort. Stay in a car with a pollen filter, or head to the lakes where there are less trees and less pollen.
