Hotels are facing more competition as more and more hotels pop up over the country

. They are also facing new sales challenges in the current economy as people are traveling less.

One way for hotels to make more bookings and therefore more money is to increase online reservations. To do this, hotels should make sure they are easily found online and that they have good online reviews.

For one thing, keep in mind that most travelers will be using their cell phones or computers to search for and book a room. Technology makes it easier for people to book a hotel room at the last minute.

When travelers are looking to book a room quickly in a given town, for example Hotels Fargo, they might book rooms at hotels they have stayed at before and not even use technology to find a room.


Although hotel ratings and location are also important, price is the first thing most people will consider. If one hotel is $79 per night and one is $129 per night and they are roughly in the same location, the person is probably going to take the less expensive room.

Still, another thing to keep in mind is that some people will assume the more expensive hotel is the nicer hotel even if that is not the case. Hotels should keep a close eye on what their closest competition is offering for rates.

Where your hotel shows up in the search engine is important. Most people will click on the top two or three listings and that's it. Your hotel should show up at the top for your area whether it's Hotels Fargo, hotels Bismarck or hotels Grand Forks.

Hotels that do not show up in the first two or three Google rankings for hotels in their area are not going to get as much traffic to their web sites. Those that do not even show up on the first page will be even worse off.

To get more online bookings, make sure it's easy for people to do so. If someone has to click on five or six different pages to get to the booking page, they are going to give up and book a room at a competing hotel.

The place to book the room online should be fast and easy, taking no more than a minute up until the credit card information is entered. Think of ways to speed up this process such as not requiring users to log in.

Creating a log in could be an option for those travelers who want to stay at your hotel multiple times. That way their settings and preferences could always be saved so they can save time next time they want to book a room at the same hotel. Rather than re-entering in all of their information, it would be saved from the last time. They could choose to either book a similar room or change their preferences.

As more and more people travel and book rooms online, fewer and fewer people will be making hotel reservations over the phone. Hotels should keep this in mind.
