Ways To Avoid Stress During Exams

Most academic institutions are of the belief that including exams in the curriculum is a significant part of the learning process

. At a younger age, students fail to realize their need and importance; but exams are certainly an integral part of every educational system.

It is true that over the years, exams have been an appalling nightmare for children. Studies reveal that mostly all children face anxiety due to their stress leveling soaring and this impacts parents too. Sometimes, parents themselves are the reason for pressure amongst students.

However, there is a list of dos and donts that can be followed to avoid such exam-stress-

1. Avoid Last Minute Studying-


Being prepared from the beginning can reduce your stress level during exams. In fact, it gives you time to organize your thoughts, schedule your study and also give you a fair idea about how much you know and how well your examination paper could go. Last minute studying always makes a student more nervous and sometimes makes them forget or blank out during the exam.

2. Ready an Agenda for the Last Two or Three Weeks Before your Exams-

It is always a good idea to pen down your study schedule before an assessment. Two-three weeks prior to the D-date, a student is more relaxed and can think and function rationally. Jot down the timings for each subject or module and try and abide by the time-lines you have allotted yourself. It is better to keep a day or two extra, so one has time to cover up, for what he or she couldnt grasp earlier.

3. Add Breaks in Between your Study Schedule-

Each student has their own strengths and limitations pertaining to how much one can concentrate and absorb knowledge. So, it is practical to add breaks amidst study times. Walking your pet or meeting a few friends and may be a power nap and lunch-dinner breaks are a few study-breaks that should be involved in your study agenda.

4. Avoid Sleep Deprivation -

Sleeping enough is very important when you are studying. Before the exams, a student must not deprive himself of sleep. Deprivation can cause lack of confidence and spoil the mood to study sometimes. Especially, before exams one must be careful about their sleeping pattern. And during exams, it becomes even more crucial to have good sleep.

5. Eat Well-

You may wonder what eating has got to do with exams. But it is essential to maintain a healthy diet, so you have sufficient energy and the right state of mind to concentrate and study. Almonds are a good source of nutrition, as they help you strengthen your memory. Fruits, vegetables and nuts make up for a healthy diet. Low calorie food is better, so it makes you lesser drowsy while studying.

6. Learn the art of Time Management-

A lot of times, students while away their time. If studying is well managed in time, it leaves you time for other extracurricular activities and meeting friends too. Time management acts as a significant aspect in avoiding exam-stress.


7. Find a Place where you can Concentrate -

You cannot sit in a crowded place and study efficiently. A study room, library or a lonely spot in the house is a good place to concentrate and speedup your efficiency to grasp. All British Columbian Colleges offer great infrastructure for their students to study in peace during exam time.

Most importantly, at such times, it becomes important for parents to act as standing pillars and support the child.
