So how can you train cats and dogs to live together peacefully? You'll need to start with obedience. The dog is likely to be the aggressor, so you'll want to train your dog to be very obedient. A very obedient dog will stop when you tell him 'no.'

When you bring the cat into a home with dogs, put the dog in another room and let the cat wander around. The cat will need to roam around and spread her scent to feel at home.

Next you'll want to separate the cat from the rest of the house by putting him in a separate room. Let the dog roam around the house, smelling the cat's scent. He'll very quickly associate the smell of the cat with the home, which will make the cat less of a threat to your dog.

Dogs will first start barking when they see another animal that they perceive as a threat. A dog is extremely unlikely to immediately get physical with the other animal. Instead, they'll try to scare the other animal away.

When the barking starts, this is when you tell him 'no.' An obedient dog will stop barking. While this may take a few tries, he will soon realize that the cat is allowed in the home.

Once the dog has stopped barking, let him sniff the cat up close.

Finally, you'll need to ensure that you give both animals some time to get to know each other. Cats are naturally aloof and will likely try to stay away from the dog.
