Ways To Get Rid Of The Grasshoppers In The Property

Imagine your beautiful garden being infested by grasshoppers! What a horrifying thought! However

, it is not something that is not likely to happen if you do not get rid of the grasshoppers reproducing year after year in your garden. How do you get rid of them so that they do not create more troubles for you later on? Here are some tips to help you.

1. Insect repellents to the rescue

Yes, the insect repellents that you use in the house for your other pests such as cockroaches can also have an effect on the grasshoppers. These pests do not like spicy tastes too so if you spray some insect repellents on the leaves of your garden plants, the grasshoppers will not make a meal out of them.

2. Remove weeds

You have to control the weeds that are growing in your garden. Not only are they unsightly for a garden full of beautiful flowers, they will also encourage your grasshopper population. In addition to getting rid of the weeds, you should also break up your garden soil.

3. Introduce bird populations

The pests in your garden will be afraid of the birds as they will feast on them. You can hang up bird feeders or baths to attract the birds into your garden and before long, you will find that your grasshopper populations have decreased, thanks to the birds. You will need to be patient though as it will not be as fast as using other poisonous means such as killing them with insecticides but birds are safer for our health. If you are cooking the vegetables from your garden, you do not want to eat leaves that smell of insect repellents!

4. Grasshopper baits

Alternatively, you can also use grasshopper baits to kill the grasshoppers outright but be careful not to harm the birds in the process of getting rid of the pests. You do not want the birds in your garden if they eat the poisoned grasshoppers.

5. Use of neem oil

This is a less commonly used method so I have placed it last. The neem oil has a drastic effect on the normal day-to-day function for the grasshoppers and they get confused over meal time and rest time. After some time, your pests will be destroyed.
