Ways To Increase Art Profits With Gift Certificates
Gift certificates are often brought by people who cannot select the right gift for someone
, or run out of time to find one. They are popular because they are considered a 'safe' option as a gift, and for good reason.
However gift certificates can also be used for other marketing opportunities to increase your art sales and profits. You can pre-sell discounted gift certificates before an art exhibition; give them to potential or existing customers as free gifts; or use them as prizes for competitions.
Here are four ways to increase your art profits with gift certificates:
1. Sell gift certificates before an art exhibition
When promoting your next art exhibition offer prospective customers discounted gift certificates before the event. A discount of 5% or 10% may be just enough incentive for the customer to purchase the certificates before the exhibition. This is particularly successful if you email or post promotional cards to your mailing list as you can promote the discounted gift certificates at the same time.
Your customers can then redeem the gift certificates during the opening function to make a speedy, discounted purchase of their favorite art. Customers will perceive real value in the gift certificates because they receive a discount, and you will have a guaranteed purchase.
2. Give gift certificates to your potential customers
As a matter of course you should be actively seeking potential customers for your mailing list, including postal addresses. A great marketing opportunity can be obtained by giving away gift certificates to potential customers on this list.
Write up gift certificates for your mailing list customers with a minimal redemption amount, such as $5 or $10. Your customers will still see the certificates as valuable, free currency and they will be highly likely to come in to buy a painting. Always put an early expiry date of a month or two onto the gift certificates so the customers have to use them promptly.
3. Give gift certificates to your existing customers
On-selling artworks to your existing customers is an easy way to increase your artwork sales. A customer who has already purchased an artwork from you obviously likes what you have to offer and is familiar with your work, therefore you already have a foot in the door.
Each time someone buys a piece of artwork provide them with a gift certificate. Even with a minimal redemption amount of only $5 or $10 the customer will still perceive it as real value. Pop the certificate into your purchase pack containing the customers tax receipt, certificate of authenticity, your artist profile and your business card. They will thank you for it by coming back for a second purchase.
4. Use gift certificates as prizes in a competition
Holding a competition is a great way of getting additional exposure for your artwork and exhibition, it will help you to increase your mailing list, and it will give you the opportunity to up-sell.
A gift certificate will be the perfect prize for this competition as it will give the winner a choice. Have the dollar amount equal to the full purchase cost of one of your smaller artworks. Then, when the winner claims their prize there will be a very good chance they may purchase a larger, more expensive painting, or an additional one.
As you can see the humble gift certificate can become a valuable marketing tool for increasing your art sales and art profits, giving you the opportunity to pre-sell artworks, offer discounts, or up-sell to your customers.
