For acid reflux sufferers, a meal out can be a bad idea

. Acid reflux can cause a severe lack of sleep, which in itself is a problem. However, there are some solutions to this problem, so of which you might not expect!

The symptoms of acid reflux are unpleasant, and now affect a large proportion of the country. This in itself tells us that something is wrong with our diets if so many are suffering. So, if you eat a better diet, will this clear up your acid reflux? Absolutely, you have the power to stop the reflux by controlling what you eat! Don't panic at this stage, it needn't be as drastic as it might sound. One of the big differences to reducing acid reflux may just be the size of your meals, especially those in an evening before you go to bed for the night.

So, give this a try for a few days and see how you get on. Eat smaller meals, especially your last meal of the day. When your stomach has less food to digest, it needs less acid to do so, and it can process the food more efficiently than when the stomach is full to overflowing. Try eating 5 to 6 times a day, so add 2 or 3 small snacks in there so that your stomach never goes without food for longer than a few hours each day, but make sure you don;t over eat too.

This should reduce your acid reflux by helping your digestion. It is very important that you do not go to bed with a full stomach, since lying down will allow the stomach acid and food to flow back up the esophagus and into your mouth, very unpleasant. So allow your food a couple of hours to digest before you lie down, and if you are in the habit of laying on the sofa after dinner, don't stay upright and go for a walk instead. It will do you more good!


Now if you are still having trouble with acid reflux, try discovering what foods are the culprits. Acidic foods are often thought to cause problems, things like acidic fruits, oranges, grapefruits, tomatoes, and tomato based products, as well as high fat foods. This means that pizzas get a double hit since they are fatty and tomato based.


There is also something else that you could try, and that is called food combining. This method still enables you to eat what you want, just not in the combination that you would have done previously. For instance, I only ever eat fruit with other fruit, and since making this change, my acid reflux has stopped. You can also use a regular pillow on top of these wedges for greater height, but the neat thing about these wedge pillows is that they do not put your neck at a strange angle since they raise all your upper body, not just the head. So to summarize, eat smaller meals, but more often, or try cutting out the foods that bother you the most. Try food combining to see if that will cut down your acid reflux like it did mine. Purchase an acid wedge pillow, which is useful for sitting up reading in bed anyway.
