You should overcome those disturbances in order to prevent emotional eating.
Keep yourself busy. Most of the people overeat because of boredom. Try to distract yourself and engage in other things like music, exercise and reading. With this, you can avoid eating too much by occupying your mind and body. You can divert yourself in watching movies, writing something or any other activity that occupies the mind setting aside the food.
Have frequent mini meals. As much as possible, never skip a meal. Do not avoid foods for too long; this will lower your blood glucose. However, plan for a low-calorie mini meals several times a day, rather than having full meals thrice a day. It is good to have some carbohydrate and protein snacks in between meals, to ease hunger.
Always hydrate yourself. Drink plenty of water as well as water-rich fruits such as watermelon and orange juices; this will prevent you from being hungry. Offer yourself with a glass of ice cold water just before starting a meal. It will help reduce your appetite. In addition, there is confusion between hunger and thirst, thus staying well-hydrated may prevent both.
Get enough sleep. Overeating tends to begin when we're tired, so offer yourself a nice and comfortable nap. Feeling well-rested may help you forget your hunger and cravings, as it helps us perk ourselves up.
Follow a regular eating schedule. Following a regular eating schedule will keep you from getting too hungry on staying in control of what you eat. You should have something to eat every three hours; never go longer than five hours. This can be done through having small frequent meals instead of three large meals in a day.
Control yourself. All of these things will not work if you don't learn to restrict yourself. When hanging out with friends, learn to say NO to high caloric foods such as chomping burgers and pizzas while pigging out in front of television sets. Even if you're alone, make it clear yourself that you won't cheat on your own diet plan. As you learn to control yourself, you will easily conquer your habit of overeating.
