Weather Considerations When Purchasing Garden Tables
Weather Considerations When Purchasing Garden Tables
If you have been thinking that garden tables are something you want to add to your backyard entertaining area, you may have a lot of thoughts going through your mind. First you are probably thinking about what you want them to look like. Maybe you already have an image in your head. Or, perhaps you're designing the entire look of the area in your head. Well, before you get too far into envisioning just what those garden tables are going to look like, you need to make sure that you know what kind of tables are best suited to the environment where you live.
A lot of people don't realize that outdoor furniture is not resistant to all types of weather. Generally, different types of outdoor furniture have different strengths and weaknesses. Some are better suited for certain climates than others. So, it is important to understand the climate you live in and what type of garden furniture is best suited for the climate.
Sunny
Do you live in an area where you get more sunshine than anything else? Well the sun can cause trouble for certain types of garden furniture. There are a couple of different problems that can be caused by the sun. The first one probably won't shock you. If you've ever seen a piece of dark fabric that has spent a lot of time in the sun, you know that the sun can have a bleaching effect. Well, obviously this can be the effect that it has on your garden furniture as well. Not only can the sun bleach fabric but it can also have a bleaching effect on paints, stains, and other finishes you are using.
If you live in a sunny climate you need to look for garden furniture that has been created with UV protection in mind.
High Humidity
Another possible problem for your garden tables is if you live in an area with high humidity. High humidity increases the likelihood of mold and mildew. The reason for this is that quite often there is lots of precipitation falling and the high humidity creates a situation where it is not evaporated as easily as you might like. Some furniture, such as wicker, is more susceptible to the mold and mildew effect.
If you live in this type of area, do your research into furniture pieces that have been made with attention to being mold and mildew resistant.
Extreme Cold
If you live in an area that gets extreme cold temperatures every year this is something you need to keep in mind before you make a purchase of garden furniture. Certain materials do not react as well to extreme cold as you might like. One of those is wood. The cold weather of winter can often dry out and cause wood to crack if it is not cared for properly.
While a lot of the decision to purchase garden tables may have to do with what you want to see in your backyard, if you want to avoid being annoyed by the end result of the weather on that furniture, you're going to have to make sure to consider the environment you lived in before you make a purchase.
