Web Site Traffic, LSI Algorithms and Google's Third Elephant
Your web site traffic, like so many sites, may well be another victim of Google's latest algorithm update
. Released in June, the third elephant (read element), codename caffeine, has trampled liberally over page rank, search engine ranking and backlink authority without prejudice. Many have fallen to the stampeding LSI pachyderms' unbridled rampage.
So what does it all mean to your web site traffic?
To answer that lets take a look at both sides of the issue.
On one side there is Google and their search engine with the job of delivering fresh up to date content to its users. It is one of the things Google has always been very good at; having the ability to locate specific information where others have failed. They are the biggest search engine commanding the most traffic and have big designs on remaining so.
The search engine results did change for a while after the previous LSI algorithm change but it didn't last too long. Once people realised the focus was again on backlinks, strategies where developed based around building backlinks and again the results were manipulated and spam prevailed.
Now although many webmasters and marketers where reaping the benefits and generating massive amounts of web site traffic it wasn't providing quality for Google's search engine users and growing customer base. More especially when many of the results where of low quality and in a lot of cases just a single sale page or email opt in page.
Brand new web sites with zero page rank but thousands or even millions of indexed pages and backlinks where always going to set alarm bells ringing. When Google's alarm bells go off it generally only means one thing and subsequently they released the elephant. Now for a time they have more control of the search engine indexing results.
On the opposite side we find the webmasters, marketers, bloggers and general web site owners who only want to increase traffic and improve search engine ranking. Their focus is page rank and indexed links. They have very little interest in whether Google's search engine results are providing quality for its users. If they can sit on page one and generate web site traffic and sales because of that then their job is done.
But in many cases it is exactly that ideal causing the issues that Google constantly wishes to address. They are a search engine, not a directory listing. So they change the way the results are indexed to keep things fresh and original.
It's recognised now with the third elephant that there certainly will be more activity within the search engine results pages. It won't be as easy to dominate the first page without using proper
organic search engine optimization. Even then there will still be a need for constant activity for the top results to be maintained by any particular web site. Domination and the web site traffic that accompanies it will only be achieved by the best kept most up to date sites.
Although it's still possible to manipulate the results with things like customer reviews, genuine or otherwise, that can only be maintained with constant and regular up dates. That's why it seems likely that many of the results will fluctuate for a time before the top sites for a given market begin to show through. Of course that creates a very competitive arena that anyone with the knowledge, ability and desire can come out of very nicely and probably achieve quite a tidy profit on the way.
A brand new era filled with opportunity has arrived and it's more than possible to create one or several busy and profitable niches. Now more than ever your web site traffic is very dependent on your actions both on and off your site.
Start building now with original, quality content and it could be your site that dominates the results in only a few short months. Opportunity doesn't generally knock as often as this, grasp it, run with it and leave the spammers scrabbling in your wake.
