Weight Loss Could Be Enhanced By Drinking Green Tea

If you are interested in having an extra edge that will help you lose belly fat then green tea could be the answer for you

. A recent study is showing that a green tea weight loss diet combined with exercise could be the key to losing that stubborn belly fat. Green tea contains an antioxidant called cetechins (a flavanoid) which are linked to other health benefits and also help to burn tummy fat.

Cetechins have been linked to the reduction of various diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, lowering of cholesterol as well as improving oral health. A study released in February in the Journal of Nutrition looked at 132 obese adults who consistenly consumed calories daily and exercised about 25 minutes per day. There were two control groups: One of the control groups consumed a drink of 39 milligrams of caffeine and another group added a drink with 625 milligrams of catechins. After 12 weeks of observation, those that were drinking green tea had lost 2 pounds more than the control group, a total of 4.4 pounds.

The findings of the study show that those that there could be an increase loss of tummy fat as well as FFA and TG levels for those that consume green tea. Additional research is warranted to further clarify the mechanisms responsible for these effects.

Studies have shown that green tea could also increase athletic endurance by as much as 24%. Also, a recent study in Japan showed that mice that were given a green tea extract equivalent to drinking 4 cups per day. The mice achieved an improvement in endurance of between 8-24% and also displayed an increase in ability to exercise and calories burned after 10 weeks.


Those that drank the green tea also reduced their abdominal plus lowered their triglycerides.

In addition to cetechins, it is rich in other antioxidants such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG ). An antioxidant in it called EGCG is believed to stimulate the release of fat in to the blood stream from which it is flushed out of the body. Studies have also shown that there is an increase in thermogenesis or the body's production of heat. It is also a source of caffeinne which helps to turn on the thermogenesis process.
