West Virginia Plaintiff Sues Pfizer Over Anti-depressant Drug Zoloft

In a new defective medication lawsuit a plaintiff from West Virginia sued the drug

maker Pfizer accusing the manufacturer that they didnt inform the patients and healthcare professionals about the potential side effects of the Zoloft drug. The lawsuit was filed in the Wayne County Circuit Court, Court of West Virginia in which the plaintiff had sought for punitive and compensatory damages due to the anti-psychotic drug Zoloft.

There are many other lawsuits as well that were filed across the regions of United States accusing the drug of having direct link to birth defects and that it poses serious threat to new born and infants. According to reports there were more than 19 cases that were sent to the Multi District Litigation Court to streamline the judicial process and consolidate various Zoloft lawsuits.

According to the lawsuits not only the birth defects associated with the drug is a point of consideration rather the main point of concern is that there is a growing trend where the drug manufacturers are concealing the potential side effects of drugs. In this case too the drug manufacturer Pfizer was accused of being well-aware of the potential side effects and deliberately concealing the information to market their drugs and earn revenue from it without bothering much about the safety of the users and patients.

According to various reports birth defects due to Zoloft includes heart defects in growing baby to various craniofacial problems that may have long term effects on the physical condition of the baby.

What is Zoloft?

Zoloft is an anti-depressant and anti-psychotic drug that is being prescribed to treat the conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. The anti-depressant belongs to a group of drug known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors that functions by reducing the amount of chemicals in the brain that leads to various psychotic disorders like panic anxiety, depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Side effects of Zoloft: Like other defective drugs this too is not without side effects and has been reported to be associated with many side effects. Some of the side effects of Zoloft are:
