What could be better on a cool and damp Monday evening in mid-November than attending the spectacular Weston Super Mare Carnival? It's an exceptionally unusual event which you are unlikely to see anywhere else at all of the floats and totally covered in bright colorful lights.

Every float is decked out in its own original theme for the year is illuminated by literally thousands of high wattage light bulbs turning the Weston Super Mare carnival night into an event that shouldn't be missed whatever your age.

The carnival has a very special atmosphere which is unique and one I have never experienced anywhere else before. Even on a chilly and cold West Country autumn night the feeling of goodwill as people enjoy the evening is very special to say the least.

Just when you think the event is as good as it can get, it then gets a whole lot better and every year the standard bar is raised. I have often noticed that it would be almost impossible to find a space on the floats which is not covered by light bulbs. In fact, you could illuminate a good-sized house with the bulbs from just one square foot of space on these floats.

This year however the carnival was extra special because after the massive regenerative alterations to the seafront promenade and new Grand pier the carnival is taking a very different and much improved route as it winds its way through, and illuminating the Weston Super Mare streets.

Although bitterly cold, the atmosphere on the carnival route was electric and this is mainly due to the dedication of the participant's and volunteers on the floats, many of which are very scantily dressed in thin latex costumes even though they are fully exposed to chilly evening breeze which comes directly of the sea at this time of the year.

The route this year as been altered to come directly through the Weston Super Mare town centre to reappear at the sea front directly in front of the Grand pier before turning left through the brand new pedestrian area and heading south down the sea front toward the Tropicana before disappearing in the interior of Weston once again.
