Planning family holidays can be a little tricky when families bring along their furry friends

. However, it can be done with proper planning. Besides, going on vacation without all of our loved ones doesn't make it super fun. The number of families, wanting to travel with their pets along, is increasing. That is why more and more vacation destinations are shifting policies and making facilities to make their hotels or resorts more pet-friendly. If you are not certain whether your accommodation will allow your furry buddy to stay with you, make a call weeks before your planned trip. Get your pet acclimatized to a long car ride by practicing. In these practice trips, use the same kennel and carry case you'll be using for the big day. These must be attached to seatbelts. Specially designed ones are available from your pet stores. Using the same equipment as the ones for the trip will greatly reduce stress on your pet during the actual day of travel. Although many pets have a ball when they stick their heads out the window, don't be tempted to permit them. It is unsafe considering the fact that their head might easily be hit by another automobile. There's no need to remind anyone that major vehicular injuries cause permanent damage or worse, death. That won't be a good way to start a vacation. Just open the window a little bit enough for the cool breeze to enter.

For less stress on your pet, take them for practice trips. Keep them short and use the same equipment that you'll be using on the day of the trip. For example, your dog or cat kennel should be secured with the use of seatbelts specially designed for pets. Get them accustomed to the same seatbelt or kennel which you intend to use. Never let your pet stick its head out of the window. Many enjoy this but the fact remains that is very dangerous. Doing so poses the risk of them being hit by another vehicle which can cause permanent damage or loss of life. Just leave a little opening for them to enjoy the breeze but never wide enough to expose any part of their bodies.

Proper documentation should never be forgotten. Registration papers, health certificates, and vaccination records are often necessary when you cross borders. Some hotels and resorts might require them as well. Photos are extremely important in the event that your cat or dog gets lost. Be sure to add that to the list of things to bring. ID tags and collars must always be worn by pets. Keep the information updated so when you move to a different place, change the contact details on the tag.

Behavioral changes and digestive difficulties are common when pets are exposed to new places, situations, sounds, smells, and people. Reduce stress by providing comfort, attention, and a favorite toy or blanket. Pets are similar to children in this sense. Give them time to get used to the new environment first before moving on to your vacation activities.
