They are one of the most common ailments, the term hemorrhoid is usually related to the symptoms caused by them.By age 50, about half of adults have had to deal with the itching, discomfort and bleeding that can signal the presence of hemorrhoids.This condition is very common, especially during pregnancy and after childbirth.

Well what are hemorrhoids you might ask,they are varicose veins, blood vessels that have become unusually swollen, that show up in the rectal area. They typically range from the size of a raisin to the size of a grape. They can be merely itchy or downright painful, and sometimes they can even cause rectal bleeding, especially during a bowel movement. One sort of hemorrhoids is internal hemorrhoid this you can not see as it is as the name suggests internal you normally will not feel it either but it can lead to blood in your stool.

They are relatively common during pregnancy. Some women get them for the first time while they're pregnant and if you've had them before the pregnancy there is a good chance you will get them again.Remember they often go away on their own but not always.

What causes them,in a lot of cases increased pressure in the abdomen plays a key role this caused by:straining during bowel movements, pregnancy, repeated lifting of heavy objects, prolonged sitting or standing, and being overweight.The excessive pressure can cause the small veins around the anus and rectum to stretch.As we grow older our body losses its elasticity and veins as well and they become distended with blood and more likely to thrombosis this may result in bleeding, which is often the first indication of hemorrhoids.
